Marjoram – (Sweet) origanum marjorana
Steam distilled from the leaves. May inhibit some bacteria and fungus. May be effective for arthritic pain, stiffness, spasms and neuromuscular contractions. One of the best agents for relaxing muscle tension. Thought to be analgesic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, neurotonic, and sedative. Historically used to de-escalate sexual arousal. Some people report relief of headaches, especially migraines. Dilute in a carrier oil and rub into the neck and shoulders for this purpose. Historically used for hypertension. Avoid in pregnancy and with young children. Do not take internally.
